FAQs
Fort Myers Beach, Florida, is a popular shark fishing spot. Fishermen and vacationers both have the opportunity to catch a shark. Here’s all you need to know about shark fishing in Fort Myers, FL:
Shark fishing on Fort Myers Beach is best during the warmer months, which range from May to September. These months have seen higher shark activity due to warmer seas. We also see more sharks at this time of year because of their migratory patterns. Fishing for sharks at night can also impact your fishing because several types of sharks become more active after dark.
Sharks are drawn to bait that is fresh. It’s best to use larger pieces to create a strong scent in the water to draw the sharks closer. This technique is called chumming. The most effective alternatives are Mullet, Ladyfish, Bonita (bonito), Jack Crevalle, and Bluefish.

Florida fishing regulations contain certain restrictions on shark fishing:
Shark Bag Limit: Anglers can catch one shark per person per day, with a limit of two sharks per vessel per day.
Prohibited Sharks: Tiger sharks and hammerhead sharks are protected in Florida waters. Always check the current restrictions before fishing to prevent accidentally catching restricted species.
Have The Correct Fishing Gear: Sharks are strong and powerful, especially larger ones we will see on the charter. Make sure you are using the correct heavy-duty fishing rods, braided lines, and steel leaders. At Luck o’ the Irish Fishing Charters, we provide all of the gear that you need.
Safety first: Never fish for sharks alone. When fishing at night, it is important to handle sharks with caution. If you use gloves and dehooking equipment, you can prevent a major medical emergency.
